It’s the most quintessential Halloween treat of them all - the delightfully sweet-tart Caramel Apple! You’ll recognize the flavor and texture of this rich caramel coating from your childhood, but our rendition is remixed into a new adult favorite thanks to the addition of our Relax Cannabis Caramels. With just a few ingredients and 3 simple steps, at-home edibles don’t get much easier than this!

These Caramel Apples are great for snacking on while you’re waiting for the trick-or-treaters to knock on your door on Halloween, thanks to the Myrcene and Linalool terpenes that help ensure reliably calming effects from our Relax caramel variety (available at retailers across Oregon). The natural terpene profile and THC of our Oregon Roots’ Purple Widow strain-specific canna-butter provide an enjoyable body high that’s ideal for a chill night indoors.

This recipe will allow you to coat 4 medium-large apples in a generous caramel coating, with a THC dose of 25mg per apple - depending on your tolerance, you may want to start with 1/4 to 1/2 of an apple, or share with a friend, to get the right dose for your needs. When in doubt on dosing, as with all edibles, start low and go slow on consuming to avoid accidental over-consumption, and if you do find yourself feeling the effects of a THC over-consumption, use the tactics in our blog post to help yourself feel better.

We’ve been featuring a different Halloween desserts weekly leading up to the Holiday - check back on our recent posts for more spooky goodies!

Ingredients

4 medium-large apples (Granny Smith or a similarly tart apple are the classic choice, but you can use any you desire!)
1 package (11 oz) caramel candies
2 Periodic edibles Relax Cannabis Caramels
1 tbsp water
3/4 tsp vanilla extract
Popsicle sticks for handles

Directions

  1. Thoroughly wash and dry your apples. Place them in the fridge for at least 2 hours to chill, and ideally 24 hours if possible. Once chilled, remove the stems and sink a popsicle stick into the top of each apple. Place the apples on a parchment paper-lined baking sheet and return to the fridge until you are ready to begin dipping. Properly chilling your apples is critical to getting the caramel sauce to adhere, so don’t skip this step!

  2. Unwrap the entire package of caramel candies and place them in a heat-resistant bowl. Place the bowl over a gently boiling pot of water and allow all caramel candies to melt. Stir melted caramels before adding the Periodic edibles cannabis caramels and folding them into the mixture, stirring thoroughly to re-distribute the cannabis compounds throughout the entire caramel coating sauce.

  3. Add the water and vanilla extract to the caramel sauce and stir heartily for 2-3 minutes to ensure the mixture is well incorporated. Reduce the water boiling to a low simmer and keep the dipping sauce over the heat to keep it liquid as you work. Carefully dip an apple on its side into the caramel sauce and turn to evenly coat the surface of the apple. Once coated all around, lift the apple vertically out of the caramel and allow the excess coating to fall away. Return the apple to the parchment paper-lined baking sheet and repeat - the last apple may require you to use a rubber spatula to scrape the bowl for an even coating. Once all apples are coated, chill the finished Caramel Apples in the fridge for at least 1 hour. When ready to serve, allow to come to room temperature for at least 10 minutes to soften the caramel slightly.

Enjoy your edibles responsibly, and be sure to store any leftovers in an airtight container clearly marked with *CONTAINS THC* to avoid accidental consumption incidents.
