Recipe: Canna-Caramel Turtle Blondies

Do you love turtle candies? With their perfectly sweet and textural blend of caramel, chocolate, and nuts, it’s easy to see why these classic candies are still a favorite after hundreds of years. We wanted to create an edible version of this beloved flavor combo in a handheld bar form - meet our Canna-Caramel Turtle Blondies! These sweet treats are infused with our Relax cannabis caramel variety (available at retailers across Oregon), made with Purple Widow strain-specific Canna-Butter and Myrcene and Linalool terpenes, for a great end-of-the-night dessert!

This recipe will make about 9 large blondie bars with an approximate THC dose of 11mg per bar (if 2 Periodic caramels are used). When in doubt, as with all edibles, start low and go slow on consuming to avoid accidental overconsumption, and if you do find yourself feeling the effects of a THC overconsumption, use the tactics in our blog post to help yourself feel better.

3/4 cup unsalted butter
2 large eggs
1 1/4 cups light brown sugar
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup nuts, walnuts or pecans
3 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup prepared caramel sauce
2-3 Periodic edibles Relax Cannabis Caramels

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Line an 8x8-inch baking pan with parchment paper.

  2. Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat, swirling occasionally, until butter browns and has a nutty aroma - about 10 minutes. Transfer browned butter to a large bowl to cool slightly, about 20-30 minutes, while preparing other ingredients.

  3. Stir together flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl until combined. Whisk the eggs, brown sugar, and vanilla into cooled butter until combined. Gradually add flour mixture, 2/3rds of the nuts, and 2/3rds of the chocolate to batter mixture, stirring until combined.

  4. Spoon half of the batter into prepared pan. Bake 10 minutes. Once baking is done, remove pan from oven to cool. Drop the oven temperature to 300, being sure to keep the oven door open for a moment to release excess heat and using a temperature probe to confirm that the oven is maintaining around 300 degrees. This is very important to avoid boiling off any important cannabis compounds in the next step.

  5. Over a gentle double-boiler, melt the Periodic edibles cannabis caramels until completely liquified. Add in the non-infused caramel sauce and stir thoroughly to combine completely. Set aside to cool slightly until baked blondie bottom is cooled and oven temperature is holding at 300 degrees.

  6. Drizzle the baked bottom with 3/4 of the cooled caramel sauce. Spoon remaining batter over top of caramel and spread evenly with a spatula. Sprinkle with remaining nuts and chocolate. Return to oven; bake at 300°F until mixture is golden and set, about 35-40 minutes. Cool completely in pan, about 1 hour. Slice into 9 bars. Drizzle with remaining caramel just before serving.
